Top Ten Tuesday - One Word Titles

Today's Top Ten Tuesday topic is one word titles. When I was first thinking about this topic I couldn't think of one book with a one word title let alone ten. Amazingly, I found ten!! I find it interesting that most of the one word title books are Young Adult. Just an observation. 😉😉😉

This book releases on July 21, 2020. I've read some of this book and you'll want to pre-order it!!! Just click the cover.

Now, it's your turn . . .  do you have any other one word titled books? Tell me in the comments!

Top Ten Tuesday; Books That Changed My Mind

Happy Tuesday and welcome to Top Ten Tuesday sponsored by That Artsy Reader Girl. Today's topic is books out of my comfort zone that I enjoyed. My reading tastes are very eclectic and that's impart because I've tried books out of my comfort zone and I like them. And we all know that that means our to be read pile increases by leaps and bounds.

Fantasy and Sci-Fi are the two big genres, especially within Christian fiction has become some of my most favorite books to read.

I'm also not a huge fan of Christmas books, in general. For me they've always seemed like a Hallmark greeting card, too perfect. Chautona Havig's Christmas Embers gave me a story that had the feel good of Christmas with loads of real life.

Now, it's your turn. . . What books changed your mind? Let me know in the comments . . .

Top Ten Tuesday - Books I'd Give a Theme Song To

Today's topic is books I might have decided to not finish too early. Since I rarely do not finish a book I am rebelling and choosing a topic from The Broke and Bookish who originally started Top Ten Tuesday.

As you see the songs I've chosen you will definitely see where my taste in music lies. Not all of these songs have a lot to do with the book itself, it's just the first song I thought of. They also don't reflect the author or their work.

My book theme song, High Cotton by Alabama.

My book theme song, Bridge Over Troubled Waters by Bon Jovi

Of course none other than Renegade by Styx.

I am The Warrior by Scandal is the first song that popped in mind.

Just Another Day in Paradise by Phil Vassar

Straight from the Heart by Bryan Adams

None other than Saturday Night by the Bay City Rollers

Can't Help Falling in Love With You by none other than Elvis Presley.

This song made me giggle a bit. I love White Christmas and this song is perfect!

I haven't read this book yet, but on the back cover it mentions a "Watermelon Queen" which meant the only song appropriate is Watermelon Crawl by Tracy Byrd.

What books would you give theme songs to? And what would the theme song be? Let me know in the comments.

Top Ten Tuesday . . . Books That Surprised Me

Top Ten Tuesday's topic is books that surprised you. Shiloh is in bed so she is not seeing me use a picture of a surprised cat as my graphic this week. If you don't know who Shiloh is she is our rescue long haired Chihuahua, and she does not like cats at all.

I could only come up with five titles that surprised me, and I went back to 2007 when I started reviewing, and these were the only ones I could find. I'll put the review link beside each cover.

One, this book surprised me because I am not a SCI-FI/ Fantasy fan and I absolutely loved this book! I read it with a group on Facebook that author Mary Weber ran.

Review

Two, I again stepped out of my comfort zone and read a book with a SCI/FI - Fantasy feel. What surprised me about this book was that it is written by a teenager, and she writes and expresses herself like a very wise adult.

Review

Three, this book had a Muslim hero, and a Christian heroine and I was surprised by how authentically the author wrote the story.

Review

Four, I don't know why I was surprised by this book at all. Mr. Rubart's books are each different in their own merit, but after I finished this book early yesterday morning, I had not only been transported out of reality, I had received a great lesson.

Review

Five, I've been a huge fan of Brandilyn Collins since I started reviewing. This book surprised me because it was so laugh out loud funny. Ms. Collins is known for her thrill ride suspense and this book was completely different.

Review

What books surprised you? Let me know in the comments. Are any of yours on my list?

February Wrap Up

Anyone else surprised that today is March 1st? I know I am. We haven't had much winter weather here in Idaho, it's actually been more like spring until just recently when we've gotten a few snow storms. We actually have snow on the ground for the first time all season.

It was a busy reading month for me. I read and reviewed five new releases.

As Bright As Heaven by Susan Meissner

Across the Blue by Carrie Turansky

Renegades by Marissa Meyer

If He Only Knew by Christy and Gabriel

The Lost Castle by Kristy Cambron

My most favorite post this month was Yes, Kiss Me Again...An Intro to Kissing #1 - surprised? It has to do with kisses, I'm not in the least.

I finally was able to see the movie Wonder, and I can't recommend it enough. It is such an inspirational film. Not only do kids need to see it, so do parents. If for no other reason than to use it as a teaching tool on how to treat others, whether they are like you or not.

We had four birthdays this month. Two daughters, my mom, and our grandson. A total of 142 years. My parents also celebrated 59 years of marital bliss.

If I had to choose a favorite book for this month, it would be The Lost Castle by Kristy Cambron. Three time periods, a castle, and romance.

My upcoming reviews for March . . .

The Lacemaker by Laura Frantz

A Passionate Hope by Jill Eileen Smith

The Man He Never Was by James L Rubart

The Sea Before Us by Sarah Sundin

Judah's Wife by Angela Hunt

Not a Word by Chautona Havig

I hope you had a wonderful February, and that you have some great things to look forward to in March.

Renegades by Marissa Meyer Reviewed

About the book:

Secret Identities. Extraordinary Powers. She wants vengeance. He wants justice.
The Renegades are a syndicate of prodigies — humans with extraordinary abilities — who emerged from the ruins of a crumbled society and established peace and order where chaos reigned. As champions of justice, they remain a symbol of hope and courage to everyone... except the villains they once overthrew.
Nova has a reason to hate the Renegades, and she is on a mission for vengeance. As she gets closer to her target, she meets Adrian, a Renegade boy who believes in justice — and in Nova. But Nova's allegiance is to a villain who has the power to end them both.

My Thoughts:

I am not a big fan of the fantasy/sci-fi genre. It's not one I gravitate to when I am just looking for something to read. I read the Lunar Chronicles and loved them so when an author friend was doing a group read of Renegades by Marissa Meyer, I thought why not, and I'm so glad I did.

All the extraordinary powers each of the characters have made the book extra fun, and definitely added lots of action to the story.

Even though I don't read a lot of this genre, I didn't find the story hard to follow or full of words and descriptions that were confusing. When I read Dune eons ago I had to put it down for that very reason. Ms. Meyer knows how to write and engage the reader.

My Bottom Line:

A fun book, and a great change of pace for what I normally read. Lots of action, a little romance, and a vacation from reality. I highly recommend it!
