About the book:
It wasn't Cassie
Haddon's fault that she had managed to reach the age of twenty-five
without possessing any useful skills. Until the war, she had always had
servants to wait on her. Since then, she and her widowed mother had
moved from place to place, relying on family to care for them. Now she's
forced to find work to support them both. What isn't in her plans is
falling for Jacob West, a local restaurateur and grocer. She needs a job
and he needs help. But what they both need is love.
Ann Shorey is the author of the At Home in Beldon Grove series, Where Wildflowers Bloom, and When the Heart Heals. She has also published selections in the Cup of Comfort series and in Chicken Soup for the Grandma's Soul. Ann and her husband make their home in southwestern Oregon. Learn more at www.annshorey.com.
My Thoughts:
Cassie has some spunk and snark. Something I love in a female character. Her mother on the other hand is has no desire to do anything but mooch off of someone. Cassie is determined to be more than some pretty face that is put up on the shelf to be admired.
Jacob West owns the restaurant and grocery store, he is reluctant to give Cassie a job because she has come from a privileged background. He gives her a job, and wishes she wasn't so cute, because she distracts him. Jacob is clearly attracted to her and would like to see her, but Jacob is 38 and says that at 22 she'd never be interested in him. We'll just have to see about that now Jacob, won't we.
Ann has written another great book. I highly recommend it.
