My Thoughts:

I loved this book! It's set in Florida, where I call home. It's a dual time novel, and it has an adoption thread. A perfect trifecta for me!

This book is about being lost, not knowing who and whose you are. Adam has walked away from his calling as a lawyer because he feels responsible for a case. Olivia discovers a family secret which throws her into a tailspin.

Olivia is spunky. I loved how she just walked into Adam's food truck and just started preparing food. Something I would do.

Olivia's parents drove me crazy after she discovered the secret they'd kept from her. I wanted to strangle them both. With that said, Ms. Monzon got Olivia's emotions on point. I've always known that I was adopted, but I have friends who didn't and it literally tore them apart.

The historical thread of a runaway slave and the Seminole Indian War fuses into the present day story like a grandparent telling a child their family history.

My Bottom Line

This is the first book of the Carrington family that I've read. While this was book three in the series, I wasn't lost at all. Sarah Monzon creates family sagas similar to Julie Lessman and Pepper Basham.

Ms. Monzon portrays characters in spiritual need, and through a series of events shows that God is the only answer for that need.

I highly recommend this book!

A Rumored Fortune by Joanna Davidson Politano - Reviewed

About the Book:

Title: A Rumored Fortune
Author: Joanna Davidson Politano
Publisher: Revell

Tressa Harlowe's father did not trust banks, but neither did he trust his greedy extended family. He kept his vast fortune hidden somewhere on his estate in the south of England and died suddenly, without telling anyone where he had concealed it. Tressa and her ailing mother are left with a mansion and an immense vineyard and no money to run it. It doesn't take long for a bevy of opportunists to flock to the estate under the guise of offering condolences. Tressa knows what they're really up to. She'll have to work with the rough and rusticated vineyard manager to keep the laborers content without pay and discover the key to finding her father's fortune--before someone else finds it first.
Award-winning author Joanna Davidson Politano welcomes readers to Trevelyan Castle, home of the poorest heiress in Victorian England, for a treasure hunt they'll not soon forget.

About Joanna Davidson Politano:

Joanna Davidson Politano freelances for a small nonfiction publisher but spends much of her time spinning tales that capture the colorful, exquisite details in ordinary lives. Her manuscript for Lady Jayne Disappears was a finalist for several contests, including the 2016 Genesis Award from ACFW, and won the OCW Cascade Award and the Maggie Award for Excellence. She is always on the hunt for random acts of kindness, people willing to share their deepest secrets with a stranger, and hidden stashes of sweets. She lives with her husband and their two babies in a house in the woods near Lake Michigan and shares stories that move her at

My Thoughts:

This is Joanna Politano's sophomore book. I purchased Lady Jayne Disappears when it released and it is patiently waiting for me on my shelf. When I received the request from Revell to review this book the synopsis sounded great, and knowing that her first novel, Lady Jayne Disappears, received so many awards and was recommended by my friends, I decided to give it a shot.

The idea of a treasure hunt in a Victorian castle for a hidden fortune made a great backdrop for the story. For me, however, that's where the book came up short. The story moved very slowly, and there wasn't enough focus on the treasure hunt for me.

I really enjoyed the spiritual theme of grafting to the true vine. It wasn't overwhelming. It was my favorite part of the book.
If you enjoy authors like Sandra Byrd, and Julie Klassen. This is a book you'll want to try.

An unexpected mother-to-be

A romance-leery composer

And a forgotten melody from the past that holds the keys to their futures.

When Julia Jenkins’ great aunt dies and leaves her a Victorian mansion with decades of secrets, Julia never expects to unearth a World War 2 espionage mystery. Struggling with her own past since an assault left her pregnant, her future as a solo parent leaves her dreams uncertain. The inheritance from her great aunt gives Julia the ability to take a step back into her future, but also sends her into the discovery of a love story she’d never anticipated. Following her aunt’s cryptic journal, Julia uncovers some oddly written piano music with a musical code she can’t decipher on her own. Not to worry, introverted Englishman and composer, Henry Wright, is thrust on the scene by a pair of homespun matchmakers who know the ‘right’ man for Julia’s wounded heart.

Henry arrives in Pleasant Gap with the task of composing the soundtrack for his best mate’s newest film. The Jenkins’ family’s southern welcome and gregarious personalities set his reticent nature on edge, but he’s inexplicably drawn to his gentle and music-loving hostess, Julia. Uncertain how to build a friendship with the wounded woman, and rather hopeless in communicating well through words, the bond of music becomes a bridge between her uncertainty and his awkwardness.

But her broken past and his families’ expectations build a wall much greater than the cultures that separate them. As they work together to solve a musical mystery from the grave, will an unlikely romance from the past inspire their hearts to trust in a God who’s written the perfect melody for their lives?

It's Tuesday, which means it's time for Top Ten Tuesday. Today's topic is favorite bookish websites and blogs. I have a post of my favorite blogs, you can read it here. Today I am going to give you favorite bookish places I love to hangout on the web.

1. Goodreads is a place of all things bookish. I enjoy seeing what others are reading, and seeing if they've enjoyed the same books I have or am.

2. I love Pinterest because so many authors make boards with their book characters, settings, and other fun things that go with their novels.

3. Julie Lessman's Journal Jots, has fun information about her books, upcoming releases and giveaways. And her weekly blog post is always full of fun and inspiration.

4. Bethany House Fiction  is a great place for both authors and readers to connect. Plus it gives readers an inside look at the publishing side of books.

5. Overdrive is my library website and one I visit often, mainly to see if new releases of favored authors are there and if they aren't I request them. It's an easy way for me to support authors.

6. Seekerville is a blog that has authors, and bloggers talking about all things bookish.

7. BookBub has discounted ebooks. It's a free email subscription where you'll get notified about both free and hugely discounted ebooks.

9. If you've been around the blogging world for any length of time I'm sure you've heard of the website Netgalley. As a blogger and reviewer this has to be the most dangerous place for me. I can request books before release the trick is to remember to post the review on Netgalley.

10. Instagram has really inspired my creativity with book photos and introduced me to fellow readers, as well as new books to read.

My Thoughts:

It's been a long time since I've read a novel by Robin Caroll, and reading her new release, which is the first of her Darkwater Inn series, reminded me why I enjoy her novels so much.

The New Orleans setting of this book is both mysterious and intriguing.
Every time I read the name Pampalon I was reminded of my birth mother. Her last name was Pampolina, and my biological father was an ancestor of the Trizini's who designed the house used in the Steel Magnolia's movie, which is in Natchitoches, Louisiana, a location used in the book.
Reading this book for me was a peek into my birth family's history, and interestingly it felt like home.

Ms. Caroll creates a very realistic setting. With customs, food, celebrations, the folkways of voodoo,
made me feel as though I was in the middle of the historic French Quarter.

My Bottom Line:

This mystery is more than a cozy who-dun-it. It is a suspenseful, thriller. Just when I thought I figured something out I was proven wrong, which makes a great suspense read. Each of the character's were well developed and their dilemma had you emotionally invested. The culture and customs of New Orleans as well as the inspirational thread was really what made this a new favored read. I highly recommended!
