Reading Challenge Ideas for 2019

It's been a little quiet around here with all the Christmas festivities. We spent time with six of our twelve grandkids over Christmas and had a wonderful time. Now that we've all survived Christmas it's time to look ahead to 2019. I have a hard time even thinking 2019 for so many reasons, mainly because my grandkids are getting older hence making me feel ancient. LOL

Because of my gluttony for punishment I always participate in Goodreads reading challenge of reading a set number of books a year. Problem with that is I get bored and I end up lowering my number and I still don't meet it because I don't read to check off that I've read, I read because I enjoy to and love the books.

Looking to try something different for 2019? Me too!

In glancing around the internet I found some interesting ones.

A birth year reading challenge - finding books published within your birth year, even in your birth month that not only will be fun but give you an idea of what was going on during that time period.

Adding to the birth year reading challenge you could add a family tie element. Reading books based on the year and month of a family member or based on where they live or came from. For me that would mean books written in February of 1951, Texas and Italy.

A reading challenge that has been around a long time is reading through the alphabet, either with book title, or author's name.

This Bingo reading challenge looks really fun. You could alter it a tad, or even make your own. As someone who uses a Happy Planner this would be perfect to keep me on track.

How about a monthly keyword challenge? You read one book or more books during the month that has the keyword in the title.

Want to tackle the always growing TBR pile? A TBR theme read might just help in that area.

You can check out this website for more fun ideas.

A group I'm apart of on Facebook created this reading challenge.

• A friend or family member recommended
• Based on a true story
• That has won an award
• Set in your home state or province
• With a blue cover
• With a one word title
• Written by a male author
• Originally published in a different language
• With a number in the title
• That is an author’s debut novel
• That has at least 500 pages
• Written by a new-to-you author
• Independently or self-published
• Chosen strictly due to the appeal of the cover
• Set during WWII
• Written by an author with the same initials as you (middle initial not included)
• That you can finish in a day
• With a protagonist with the same occupation as you (if you never worked, choose an occupation that you would have liked to have had, or wish to have)
• Outside of your comfort zone
• That has been made into, or is in the process of becoming, a movie
• With a coming of age story
• With either, north, south, east, or west in the title
• Published this year
• Set in the mountains or wilderness
• That is humorous

What kind of a reading challenge would you like to do? What are your thoughts on reading challenges?

Let me know in the comments.
