The story behind Scripture Doodle

The Story Behind ScriptureDoodle

Tells us a bit about your book—what inspired you to write it?
Our ScriptureDoodle books are 6-week devotionals merging creative art exercises with the word of God. I was inspired to write them because my heart is to help people draw closer to God through art, whether or not they feel equipped to do so.
What is the main message of your book?
We often say, “ScriptureDoodle is not about making a masterpiece it’s about worship.” Truly that statement encompasses the message of our books. ScriptureDoodle is for anyone willing to try. Even if you don’t come out of it painting the Mona Lisa, you will certainly gain a comfortability with weaving art and doodling into your quiet time with God.
What was the hardest part about writing nonfiction?
The hardest part for me was telling the story of God and making sure that the context of what I shared was in line with the truth of God’s word and His character. Sometimes we bend the scriptures to make them fit what we wish to hear, I wanted to be mindful of that as I wrote each devotion.
What is one thing you learned while writing ScriptureDoodle?
I learned that editors are amazing! My editor was a great sounding board as we sifted through the daily writings. She was quick to say which ones she thought would or wouldn’t work for our books. This process was key  because it ensured our book became a perfect mix between applicable teaching and do-able art exercises.
What are you working on next?
Right now we are working on creating a six-week video study to go along with both of our books. This will be a perfect resource for people wanting to experience our ScriptureDoodle books in a small group setting. We’ll have two different 6-week video series. One for each book!

My Thoughts:

I am not an artist by any stretch, all of those genes were passed onto my children. I do love coloring and I have a journaling Bible that I absolutely love. I loved doodling in this book, it wasn't anything hard just simple things like drawing hearts, playing around with different ways to write words, drawing simple borders. April gives simple ideas and gives you a page to practice on. This was a fun book, and would be a perfect gift for anyone on your Christmas list!
