First Line Friday Featuring Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano with Review and Giveaway

Happy FRI-YAY!!! Although, given the pandemic I'm not sure Friday is much different from Monday. Unless, you're teaching kids at home! Thankfully, here in Nampa, Idaho school ends tomorrow which means my two granddaughter's who are learning from home can just be kids! I really hope things are going well in your neck of the woods!

I'm going to be doing something a little different than just a standard First Line Friday post. I am going to include my review of Storing Up Trouble by Jen Turano and she has graciously offered an autographed giveaway! So, look for the rafflecopter entrance at the end of the post.

First Line Friday~

First Line:

September 1886

The truth of the matter was this -- she, Miss Beatrix Waterbury, had been banished from New York, and all because she'd had the great misfortune of landing herself in jail . . . twice.

And this is just the beginning of Beatrix Waterbury quirkiness and antics!

Visit Hoarding Books for more First Line Friday fun!

About the book:

When Beatrix Waterbury's train is disrupted by a heist, scientist Norman Nesbit comes to her aid. After another encounter, he is swept up in the havoc she always seems to attract--including the attention of the men trying to steal his research--and they'll soon discover the curious way feelings can grow between two very different people in the midst of chaos.

My Thoughts

In Jen Turano's signature style with quirky characters, witty banter, eccentric secondary characters and one very cute niece you have a book that will keep you laughing from the first page to the last.

I've never met a Jen Turano book I haven't loved and this book is no different! The suffrage movement would never be the same after meeting with Beatrix, and Norman's scientific experiments were like a comedy of errors more than experiments.

Jen Turano ends her American Heiresses series on a very high comedic note but it's not all about comedy. Ms. Turano weaves truths about the suffrage movement from that time and while science is a big part of life here on earth science can't take the place of God because He doesn't fit the scientific mold.

I highly recommend this book!

I have survived this pandemic by reading. I have read 3-5 books each week. It reduces stress and fear. I love Jen's novels and would love to win this book. Thank you.

I've been doing a lot of yard work, planting a garden, helping my dh do house projects while he was off work. Squeezing in reading time at night. Looking forward to reading Jen T's new book. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

I've been helping others during the quarantine. That really helps lift my spirits. And it keeps me busy! I'm trying to finish my TBR pile and distribute those books to others stuck at home. "Share the love" as it were.
By the way, great looking book cover and Jen's photo is beautiful. I love her hair! :)

Happy Friday! My first line is from "Grand Encounters" by Jen Turano:

"I know you mentioned you've sworn off gentlemen forever, but Mr. Tall, Dark, and - need I say - Delicious is here again, and, unsurprisingly, he's sitting in your section."

Happy Friday!
On my blog I'm sharing the first lines from The Socialite by J'nell Ciesielski. I'm currently on chapter 14, so I'll share from there.
"Kat tipped the glass of wine to her mouth, but didn’t part her lips. She hated reds, especially dry ones, and they gave her a splitting headache."
I hope you have a great weekend filled with awesome reading time! 😀❤📚

I've been doing transcriptions of hand-written letters of Clara Barton's family papers through a crowd-sourced project of the Library of Congress. It has been really interesting. I love Jen's books and characters. The first line from the book I am reading, Woman of Sunlight, by Mary Connealy is "You look awful." It's really good– almost done!

What a spectacular first line! We’ve been so amazingly blessed and have been surviving with copious friend Zooms, getting creative in the kitchen by playing a virtual Chopped-style game that one of my friends thought up, lots of reading, and finishing Netflix. 😂😂 Keeping a sense of humor is essential.

I’ve been reading, sleeping and crafting. Spending lots of time with my pets. My husband works during the day, so it’s just me, three cats and a dog. Nice and quiet.

Not too much has changed for me through this pandemic. My sister and mom both work from home, and I work for my local county government. I've had some extra days off, but for the most part, it's been business as usual.

I’ve been sewing and reading.

I am loving all the reading through this pandemic responses! I’ve had a hard time staying focused which is why it took me forever to get this book reviewed.
My daughter and her family live with us and while she’s been working with students online from the high school she works at, her wife is working from home taking calls for T-Mobile, she’s also been helping her own kids with distance learning here at home. I homeschooled my girls for 7 years and let me tell you this distance, online learning is not what homeschooling is! I feel for the parents and the kids. I think too much is being expected of them given the circumstances. As I’ve watched this unfold I would’ve had some words will the school’s saying my kids will work on skills and skills only for no more than an hour a day. With that said my hat is off to all of you parents teaching your kids!
I’ve been reading, doing lots of coloring which helps when a granddaughter is crying because of school, and doing my own schoolwork.

I'm so excited to read Jen's new book! I've yet to read a book by her that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Besides rereading Jen's books, I've also been drawing, painting, running, getting my bicycle in working order again so I can ride it, practicing piano and taiko, and babysitting.

Because of some health issues, the past 7 months have seen me staying home extensively. So the "stay at home" Covid need hasn't been too difficult. I had already set up prescription deliveries (no charge.at CVS with new plan). I was ordering staples from Amazon using Prime. I was ordering groceries and a family member picking them up when they got theirs. So the only difference with COVID for me is a bit more stay in and scarcity of items when I try to order so a bit more surfing internet and allowing up to 3 weeks for orders.

I am a senior-senior with some health issues so must be careful of exposure and my kids have been grand. I can not fathom the families with children of any age coping with the reality of working from home (if they have work), schooling their children, coping with shopping/cleaning/feeding. I pray for their sanity and the safety and freedom from abuse.
