I'm participating in my friend Amy's Saturday's blog carnival. She asks us Christian fiction bloggers a question and we answer it. Last week was our first week, and it was pretty cool!
I've been busy today so I'm just now getting to it.
Here is her question for today . . .
Whether or not you celebrate Halloween, there's something about the shorter days and chilly air that makes one want to curl up with a scary book. The horror market for Christian fiction is growing in creativity and testing all sorts of boundaries. The suspense market is also very rich with many talented authors. So my question(s) for you is...what's the best Christian fiction horror or suspense novel that you've read? What book would you recommend to someone who wanted to try out these genres? What's a book in these genres you want to read but haven't yet?
Man Amy, we're only into week two and you've already come up with two doozies of questions. First last week with Why we read and review Christian fiction and now this question. ;o) I love it too, because I was just asking for a scary read for halloween night. >insert big grin<
While I love Brandilyn Collins for her forensics because I am a forensic nut, and I would highly recommend any of her books. My first love when it comes to this genre of Christian fiction goes to Mr. Frank Peretti. I'll never forget the first time I read This Present Darkness. Our entire S.School class read it together and it was awesome. I have come to also enjoy Ted Dekker's work, and their collaboration in writing House was phoneminal. When it comes to recommending a book in this genre, I find myself quick to recommend one of Peretti's earlier works. The Prophet, The Oath. However, I find myself more and more looking at what we've read and reviewed on our tours and giving a list out. I'm looking forward to reading Dark Pursuit by Brandilyn Collins, and anything by Ted Dekker, Tim Downs, Travis Thrasher just to name a few. It seems that this genre is growing by leaps and bounds, and I'm very happy about it. I just feel we are very blessed to have authors using their gifts for God writing such awesome books!
