Return To Me

After years of watching his children and grandchildren wander from their faith, Iddo's prayers are answered: King Cyrus is allowing God's chosen people to return to Jerusalem. Jubilant, he joyfully prepares for their departure, only to learn that his family, grown comfortable in the pagan culture of Babylon, wants to remain.
Zechariah, Iddo's oldest grandson, feels torn between his grandfather's ancient beliefs and the comfort and success his father enjoys in Babylon. But he soon begins to hear the voice of God, encouraging him to return to the land given to his forefathers.
Bringing to life the biblical books of Ezra and Nehemiah, "Return to Me" tells the compelling story of Iddo and Zechariah, the women who love them, and the faithful followers who struggle to rebuild their lives in obedience to the God who beckons them home.

My Thoughts:

Lynn writes strong, lyrical prose that pulls you right into the story.
This story begins with Iddo, his wife Dinah, and his children living in Babylon under the rule of King Cyrus. Zechariah, or Zeki's childhood friend Yael's mother has died. One day all of the men are summoned to King Cyrus who frees the Jewish people, telling them they could return to Jerusalem. Iddo's prayers have been answered, however his sons are not thrilled and don't want to leave. Their of the opinion that they have thriving businesses, why leave now they could go to Jerusalem later. Zechariah is in the position of choosing to go with his grandfather, Iddo, or stay with his parents, at the age of thirteen.

Iddo is talking to his wife about leaving and this is what he says "This is how idolatry begins," Iddo said. "With a simple curiosity. Before long, we grow accustomed to seeking signs and omens, and they no longer seem like abominations. The idols seem worthy of our worship. The pagans believe they can manipulate their false gods and bribe them to do their bidding. But the Holy One cannot be bribed. Instead we bend our wills to match His. The Torah instructs us to remain separate, to be holy."

I loved this! It really showed how with a small bait from the devil we can be easily swayed. This also reminded me of what I learned recently in my study of Revelation that God is ready and waiting for us to return to Him.

I highly recommend this book!
