Syrian Refugees and the Believing Christian

Okay . . . I really don't like to get into political issues however the Syrian Refugees coming into the United States has made me look at things a little differently.

These verses were floating around Facebook the last couple of days, and it makes me wonder how we as a follower of Christ do what He is calling us to do yet be proactive and protect our country, because it is clear that our government isn't going to.

For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in... I tell you the truth, whatever you did for the least of these, you did for me. Matthew 25:44-46

I asked our small group leader his thoughts regarding these verses and the refugees, and I liked his answer. It made sense and was doable.

He first said that it was interesting, how do we do what Christ is calling us to, in the midst of this. He went on to say that the government letting them to come into America really isn't the issue. The issue is being face to face with someone who needs assistance and doing nothing whether a refugee, widow, military veteran, a child. Every day we come in contact with people and how many do we pass by and do nothing. If we were honest probably every one of them. Yet the Syrian refugees seem to be getting all the attention. Not our homeless, our military vets, starving children, who are all right here in America.

My thoughts: Instead of getting all wrapped up and "upset" because a believer's opinion is not the same as yours look for ways to follow Christ's command looking for no praise, daily. Who knows if I'll run into a Syrian refugee, I do know that I will see someone who is homeless, or a veteran, almost every time I go shopping. Looking for ways to minister daily is always on my mind and I think that is the most important thing. God will take care of the rest!
