Rise and Shine: A Contemporary Fairy Tale by Sandra D. Bricker

About the Book:

Shannon Malone thought she'd found her happy ending when she married Edmund Ridgeway, but a diving accident on their honeymoon left her in a coma. Waking up to the news that she's thirty years old would have been daunting enough . . . but she also learns that Edmund has lost his interim battle with cancer and the world has marched on without her. Her gorgeous doctor, Daniel Petros, seems to know everything about her and becomes Shannon's tour guide into a whole new world of madness where reality television has taken over the planet and everyone's life appears to revolve around a tiny screen on their cell phones!

As Shannon struggles to navigate through the changes-both in the world and in her-she also must discern real memories from imagined ones. Did she really ever wear capris pants and entertain in her living room, or was that Laura Petrie from her favorite classic TV show? And where is her beloved dog, Freeway? Oh, wait! That was Jonathan and Jennifer Hart's dog, not hers.

Shannon's three elderly aunts flit through her life in true Sleeping Beauty style with her well-being always a priority. And Edmund's sister Millicent descends like the Evil Queen she is, trying to extract Shannon from any claim on the Ridgeway family fortune. When a tornado moves through town and Shannon is knocked unconscious, will Daniel's kiss awaken her once and for all?

 About Sandra D. Bricker:

Raised as a Cincinnati Kid, Sandie Bricker spent her formative years dreaming about the movies and television shows she would someday write. It came as no surprise to anyone when she packed up her Ford Fiesta and migrated to Los Angeles to study screenwriting.

“But life is what happens while we’re busy making other plans,” she jokes. While searching for a way to earn a living and pay her tuition, Sandie says she “stumbled into” her own business working as a personal assistant and publicist to some of daytime television’s hottest stars. When her mother became ill on the other side of the country, however, Sandie put soap opera clients, film dreams—and Los Angeles—in her rearview mirror to take on a new role: Caregiver.
“I guess most people would see my career as a publicist as a sort of dream job. But giving it up and moving to Florida to take care of my mom until she died turned out to be the best thing that could have happened to me!” she declares. When, at her mother’s urging, she channeled her writing dreams from the screen to the page, a reader favorite was born! “Twenty books later,” she says, “I’d say God had another plan for me. The opportunity to combine my passion for writing with my Christian faith is a blessing I never expected…and wouldn’t trade for anything!"

In November 2013, Sandie packed her car once again and this time headed north. "I was raised in Cincinnati," she says. "So it feels like full circle to find myself led back to Ohio." She is in the process of making a home in Toledo where her home church and best friend of more than 40 years are located. This year, she has taken her established writer brand of Laugh Out Loud Fiction and transitioned to Live Out Loud Fiction. "I think I've grown as a writer over the last couple of years," she says. "Although humor will never filter out of my stories, I do think my readers have enjoyed the deeper spiritual and life lesson threads that have become part of my storytelling."
You can read more about Sandra on her website:

http://www.sandradbricker.com/

My Thoughts:

The last thing Shannon remembers is her and her new husband leaving the hotel on their honeymoon to go diving. She wakes up from a coma to find her new husband has died, and her very attractive doctor, Daniel knows more about her than she does. Her faith is shaken and she begins to lean very heavily on Daniel. He is the only link she has to her husband, Edmund.
In true Sandra style she has written a book that will not only give you a laugh or two, it will leave you thinking about the characters and their story long after you've closed the last page.

Highly recommended!

William Sirls’ THE SINNERS’ GARDEN iPad Mini Giveaway!

About the book:
In the small Lake Erie township of Benning, someone is at work cultivating a supernatural garden …
Andy Kemp’s young life has been as ravaged as his scarred face. Disfigured by an abusive father, the teenager hides behind his books and an impenetrable wall of cynicism and anger.
As Andy’s mother struggles to reconnect with him, his Uncle Rip returns transformed from a stint in prison and wants to be a mentor to the reclusive boy, doing everything he can to help end Andy’s pain. When Andy begins hearing strange music through his iPod and making near-prophetic announcements, Rip is convinced that what Andy is hearing is the voice of God.
Elsewhere, police officer Heather Gerisch responds to a late-night breaking and entering in one of the poorest homes in town. She soon realizes that the masked prowler has left thousands of dollars in gift cards from a local grocery store.
As the bizarre break-ins continue and Heather pursues the elusive “Summer Santa,” Andy and Rip discover an enormous and well-kept garden of wildflowers that seems to have grown overnight at an abandoned steel mill.
Soon, they realize who the gardener is, and a spree of miracles transfigures this small town from a place of hopelessness into a place of healing and beauty.

 My Thoughts:

William Sirls is a new author to me. It took me over sixty pages to get into this book. I normally give a book fifty pages and if I am not enjoying it, I toss it aside, however, since I requested this book for review I kept reading believing it would get better.  It did get better, there were things I liked and things I didn’t. I won’t go into that because I don't want to give any thing away.
I would recommend this for someone who not only enjoys a mystery, but also likes some fantasy too.

The Dream Dress by Janice Thompson

About the book:

A seamstress at a swanky bridal boutique, Gabi Delgado dreams of doing more than ripping out seams and fitting dresses to doe-eyed brides. She wants to see her own dress designs gracing the young women of Texas. When Jordan Spencer, the editor of Texas Bride magazine visits the shop to do a feature, Gabi is devastated to lose her job in his very influential presence. Convinced she'll never get her dreams off the ground now, Gabi needs lots of encouragement--especially from her friend Bella Neeley--to take a chance and start her business. And as she gets to know Jordan, she discovers that she may have to take a chance on love as well. Could it be that she'll have to design her own wedding dress soon?

About this author

My name is Janice Thompson. (You will find me published under Janice Hanna, Janice Hanna Thompson, Janice A. Thompson as well.)

I’m a Christian freelance author of novels, non-fiction books, magazine articles and musical comedies for the stage. I live in the Houston area, where the heat and humidity tend to reign, regardless of the season.

I’m the mother of four beautiful daughters, (Randi, Courtney Rae, Megan and Courtney Elizabeth. Yes, I really do have two daughters named Courtney! Long story…) I also have the three prettiest granddaughters any Nana could hope for – Madysen Lynae, Avery Rae and Peyton Renae. Grandbaby #4, Ethan Ames, was just born in the winter of ‘09 and baby Boston Craig just arrived in the spring of ‘10. Another baby girl is on the way – baby Brooke!

Our family is extremely active in local ministry. My oldest daughter, Randi, leads worship in the Houston area, Courtney Rae leads worship at her church in Montana, Megan works with children at our local church and Courtney Elizabeth sings on the worship team at her church in Michigan. I’m thrilled to have four grown daughters who love the Lord (and several granddaughters who one day will)!

You can learn more about her at her website:  http://janiceathompson.com/blog/

My Thoughts:

Gabi is a talented dress designer, but it seems that Demetri keeps her hidden away in a small office doing alterations. Gabi dreams of designing beautiful dresses. When Demetri is interviewed for Texas Bride magazine, Jordan the reporter, throws everything Gabi believes about men out the window.
Her grandmother, thinks he is the local Singer repair man, because his last name is Singer.
Gabi's mom, and grandmother are absolutely hilarious.
Janice writes a book that is full of fun loving characters, and a great story line, yet she doesn't slack on the spiritual aspect.
Since Gabi has had men fail her, her trust level is low and that means she is not quick to trust God either.

Bella says to her "Gabi, trust me, there are men out there with sticking power. You have to find one who's solid in his faith. If he's in a good place with God, he'll be in a good place with you."

Here is another great quote, that I can totally relate too, because after my divorce I learned that if God wasn't the lover of my heart, I couldn't love anyone else, or be a good partner.

"And maybe God--aka Prince Charming -- would help with the loneliness in the meantime. Again, for some girls. But what about girls like me? Seemed like all of my waiting just got me one thing: more time alone in the closet."

Janice has hit the ball out of the park with this book. It encompasses every girl's dream wedding, and God's dream for us.  Highly recommended!!

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this book, because it was not your typical Amish book. I loved Saul's character and the way he acted towards Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth is on the bus headed to Paradise, Pennsylvania and the woman on the bus makes a comment about Rumspringa, Girls gone wild, Elizabeth's thoughts cracked me up. "Elizabeth wondered where the Englisch got their ideas about Rumspringa."

Clare is an award-winning author and coauthor of several books and has also published many essays, stories, and poems in publications, including The Christian Reader, The Denver Post, and The Philadelphia Inquirer. ABOUT THE BOOK

Frankie Chasing Bear is caught between cultures. She wants to raise her son Harold to revere his Lakota heritage, but she also thinks he will need to learn the white man’s ways to succeed. After the untimely death of her husband, Frankie joins the U.S. Government’s Relocation Program and moves to Arizona. There she begins sewing a Lakota Star pattern quilt for Harold with tribal wisdom sung, sewn, and prayed into it. A bed without a quilt is like a sky without stars, but neither the quilt—nor her new life—comes easily to Frankie. Nick Vandergriff, for instance, is the last man Frankie wants to trust. He’s half-Lakota but Christian, and Frankie can see no good coming from that faith after her own parents were forced to convert at an Indian school. Can Nick convince Frankie that white men and Christians aren’t all bad? And will Frankie learn that love is the most important ingredient—for her son’s quilt and life itself?

My Thoughts:

So, you’re just living your everyday life, then out of the blue someone shows up out of no where to inform you that you are a princess, an heir to the throne in a country you have only heard about from your Grandmother. Would you believe them? Would you pack up and move to the country? That is exactly what happens to Regina or Reggie as she would rather be called.
When we open the book, Reggie is behind the wheel of a 71 Dodge Challenger that she has restored to perfection. She is beyond happy, and enjoying her life. However, some around her don’t believe she is really living life to its fullest. Enter Tanner Burkhardt, he has come from Hessenberg to inform Reggie that she is the heir to the throne and is needed in Hessenberg to save it from political debacle.

What girl doesn’t love a fairytale? How about one with divine intervention? That has to be better than one with a fire breathing dragon, evil stepmother, and a poison apple any day.

This is book two in The Royal Wedding series, and while Rachel has written a book with a salvation message, she has also written a book that is fun with characters you will definitely care about.
Highly recommended!

SMITTEN BOOK CLUB | KINDLE FIRE GIVEAWAY, FACEBOOK PARTY, AND SATURDAY BRUNCH

The century-old Gentlewoman’s Guide to Love and Courtship is no ordinary book club choice. But for the little book club in Smitten, Vermont, it might be their best pick yet!
The thick, leathery tome Heather pulled out of the dusty cardboard box was definitely coming home with her. Not only was The Gentlewoman’s Guide to Love and Courtship an appealing curiosity by virtue of its title; it was also written by Smitten, Vermont native Pearl Chambers, a local gentlewoman from three generations back.
Little did Heather know the repercussions this little curiosity would have on her and her friends’ romantic exploits.
When Heather and her fellow book club members begin passing the book around, their respective interpretations are unleashed on their respective love lives . . . for better or for worse. Is it a mystery? An idealist fantasy? An intimation of Jane Austen? As romantic love finds its way to each woman, the Guide proves itself both surprisingly prescient and hilariously irrelevant.
What’s more, a handwritten inscription indicates that the arcane book might hold the only extant clues leading to buried gold—exactly what one of the members needs to keep her house. How could they not go treasure hunting?
In this remarkable collaborative novel, besties Colleen Coble, Kristin Billerbeck, Denise Hunter, and Diann Hunt tackle the tale of the Gentlewoman’s Guide by writing for one book club member apiece. Smitten Book Club is a hopeful, hilarious story of friendship and healing, written by friends for friends.
Purchase a copy here.

My Thoughts:

Four friends write about four friends living in Smitten, Vermont.  In preparing for a book sale to help Molly, whose husband was killed in a horrible fire, Heather finds a book written by Smitten native Pearl Chambers titled The Gentlewoman’s Guide to Love and Courtship. As they each take turns reading the book, they wonder if there is a mystery tucked within it’s pages.

In the four novella’s written by these amazing authors, Colleen Coble, Kristen Billerbeck, Diann Hunt, and Denise Hunter, the book by Pearl Chambers is passed around between Heather, Abby, Lia, and Molly as they read the pages their love lives begin to look very different.
Spend some time in Smitten with Heather, Abby, Lia and Molly along with their creators Colleen Coble, Kristen Billerbeck, Diann Hunt, and Denise Hunter.

Highly recommended.

Finding that "Perfect" Someone

Three years ago I had gotten engaged to my amazing husband. While we have only been together three and a half years, our former marriages helped guide us to making a better, and healthier choice for us.
I had a list of what I did and did not want in a relationship and I know he had a list as well.
Being Christian's we knew no matter how well a person fit our list there was no "PERFECT" person out there. Christ was the only PERFECT man to walk the earth. Yet, I know people, women mostly who are looking for the absolute perfect man to sweep them off their feet. I have news for them. . .  there is no such thing. No matter how the other person fits your list, they will still have flaws, we're human.

The true gauge of a relationship is how a couple navigates the weaknesses and how they encourage each other to strengthen the weaknesses.
If marriage or a serious relationship is your desire, remember it will be work, and it may be more than you are willing to put in.
Love is finding someone who knows all your flaws, mistakes, and weaknesses and still thinks you're amazing!
I am in no way saying that anyone woman or man should settle . . . I believe no one should settle, however, I believe that you can especially after a divorce get caught up in finding the "PERFECT" someone that you may miss out on someone wonderful. We all have flaws, baggage, sins, and you may just be the "RIGHT" someone for that person, but if you get so nit picky you may be really sorry.

I pray this post encourages, and uplifts whoever reads it.

Happy Valentine's Day
