by
Robert Liparulo

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Former journalist Robert Liparulo is the best-selling author of the thrillers Comes a Horseman, Germ, Deadfall, Deadlock, and The 13th Tribe, as well as The Dreamhouse Kings, an action-adventure series for young adults. He contributed a short story to James Patterson’s Thriller, and an essay about Thomas Perry’s The Butcher’s Boy to Thrillers: 100 Must Reads, edited by David Morrell and Hank Wagner. He is currently working on the sequel to The 13th Tribe, as well writing an original screenplay with director Andrew Davis (The Fugitive).

When not writing, Liparulo loves to read, watch (and analyze) movies, scuba dive, swim, hike, and travel. He lives in Monument, Colorado, with his wife Jodi and four children: Melanie, Matthew, Anthony, and Isabella.

ABOUT THE BOOK

What if praying became a curse instead of a blessing?

Former Army Ranger Jagger Baird thought he had his hands full with the Tribe—the band of immortal vigilantes fighting to regain God’s grace by killing those opposed to Him. But that was before he encountered the ruthless group of immortals called the Clan. The Clan is after a prize that would give them unimaginable power—a piece of the Ten Commandments known as the Judgment Stone.

Those who touch the Stone can see into the spiritual world: angelic warriors, treacherous demons, and the blue threads of light that signal the presence of believers in communion with God.

By following the blue beam radiating from those closest to God, the Clan plans to locate His most passionate followers and destroy them.

Jagger quickly realizes his high-tech gadgetry and training are no match for these merciless immortals. But how can he defeat an enemy who hunts believers through their prayers . . . and won’t stop until they’ve annihilated all those close to Him?

In this high-action thriller, best-selling author Robert Liparulo examines the raging battle between good and evil on earth . . . and beyond.

The Promise Box by Tricia Goyer . . . Enter To Win A Baking Box

About The Promise Box:

With her heart - and her loyalty - on the line, can she let true love in her life?

Every year, young Amish men descend on the cozy little town of West Kootenai, Montana, arriving in the spring to live there for six months and receive 'resident' status for the hunting season in the fall. They arrive as bachelors, but go home with brides! Lydia Wyse, a book editor from Seattle who grew up Amish, returns to the small community of West Kootenai, Montana to give comfort to her father after her mother's death.
She is drawn back to the familiar Amish ways after finding her mother's most precious possession, a Promise Box of prayers and scripture. What her publisher sees, though, is an opportunity for a sensational 'tell-all' book about the Amish. Lydia soon finds herself falling in love with Amish bachelor Gideon Hooley. She wants nothing more than to forget her past and look forward to a future as an Amish bride.
Will the pain of her childhood-and her potential betrayal of her community-keep her from committing her whole heart?

What I Liked . . . .

Lydia's struggle with her faith were so real you could feel them through the pages. She had left the Amish way of life, and moved to Seattle. The story of her adoption and how she was conceived has been a struggle for her. As an adoptee, who also has not a pretty conception, I could empathize.
When she finds her mother's promise box that turns the tied for her and we see her begin to change.
I loved the whole promise box idea. It really makes me want to start one for my children to have.

What I didn’t . . . .

There was nothing I didn't like.

Would I Recommend This . . . .

I would absolutely recommend this book. This book shows Philippians 2:12, Working out your faith with fear and trembling. Both Lydia and Gideon do this well.

    The Bachelorette with Desiree

It is now Desiree's turn to CHOOSE! After Sean broke her heart. The problem who would you choose out of these guys.

I don't know where ABC gets these guys, but it is not from a HOT BODY competition at the beach that is for sure. I know from listening to Desiree looks is not her top priority however any woman would like someone nice on the eyes.

Okay we have Zak W. who is a drilling engineer from Mico, Texas and the dude is standing on his balcony naked . . . can we say WEIRDO!!!!! He says he has to find creative ways to entertain himself . . . take up painting!

Brandon from CA . . . sob story. Seriously!

Brooks from Salt Lake, could pass for my little brother. :)

Brad, brings a wishbone  . . . which is cute. They pull it and Des wins. He tells her he hopes her wish comes true.

Johnathon the lawyer . . . brings a card asking her to a fantasy suite can we say STALKER!!!!!

Naked Zak from Texas, shows up missing a shirt and asks if she'll accept these abs. O EM GEE!!!!!

ER Doctor Larry comes out of the limo and wants to teach Des a dance move, not realizing that the dress she is in is not going to work well, and she ends up tearing part of her gown. DORK!

Magician Nick shows up with a paper rose that turns into a real rose. Sweet.

The knight in shining armor . . .Diogo . . a little strange, but memorable.

Brandon on the motorcycle . . . cool arrival.

Micah's jacket is too weird for words!

Nick M's poem - so cheesy! UGH!

Ben bringing his son Brody who has a flower in his hand to give Des is too cute for words. Talk about an AWW moment. Brody says "I gave her the flower." He goes on to say "I wish I could go to the party, it would be so much fun." His gramma is waiting for him in the limo.
    Des is a puddle.

Brandon from Costa Mesa, whose mother is a recovering alcoholic gives Des a coin from AA, as a token when he talks to her because his mom gave it to him, she is 7 months sober, and he flipped it to decide whether to go to his birthday party or come to the bachelorette.  He said he wanted her to hang on to it and give it to his mom at the home town dates.  Sweet, cheesy, or presumptuous . . . all of the above for me.

Ben talks to Des during the cocktail party and they have a lot in common. Hunting, fishing, family activities. And she decides to give him the first rose. Panic arises in the house.

Zak from Texas strips down to his undies and jumps in the pool. I don't think Des was impressed. I wasn't and he is left in the pool without his clothes and no towel! Works for me. DORK!
I couldn't believe she gave him a rose. I mean really does she know what a pig he is.

Army guy Brydon seems to make an impression with his service in Iraq.
Des gives him a rose and you'd think the guys were loosing their lifeline LOL

Juan Pablo is a soccer player and gets Des to play soccer, and it's cute.
While their out playing soccer the guys come out, because God forbid Des have any time to herself with a guy. It's completely ridiculous!

The ER doc is freaking out because the dance move didn't work out the way he planned . . . get over it dude! & he starts to fall asleep while talking to her.  Really?!?!?!? You're here to meet your future wife and your falling asleep. Not a good sign dude!

Johnathon is a freak! He is determined to get her in a "fantasy" suite and he won't leave her alone about it. He thinks it is funny, but it isn't. He keeps trying to get her alone and she doesn't want to be alone with him, and he just doesn't get it.
In a bold move she just tells him to leave. This is after the third time she has told him to knock it off.

It's quite clear from watching this first episode that Desiree knows what she wants and she is not going to let anyone define this road for her. I was rather impressed with how she handled most of the "little" boys. I say that because in most cases that is how they are behaving.
Just watching them eye each other as she hands out the roses is humorous . . . it's like a pissing contest. I can't believe "grown men" behave this way. I expect it of women not of men. It just cracks me up.

She lets go of the ER DOC . . . the Magician . . .Diogo the knight in shining armor . . .

The season has only begun . . .

    Lincoln - The Movie

My husband and I watched this movie the other night. Lincoln is my daughter, Kassi's favorite President. She memorized The Gettysburg Address when she was eight, and I believe she still knows it today at 23.
This was a very intense movie and I really enjoyed it.
It really made me understand what I had a hard time understanding when I lived in Virginia, was the discord in Virginia. I lived in Virginia for six years and it was one of the most difficult places to live when it came to racial tension, at least for me. As a navy kid and navy wife I had lived all over and I had never experienced the racial tension that I saw there, and that my girls experienced. In base housing they had white families on one side and black families on the other. When I went into the housing office and asked about it, because I'd never seen that, they said it was easier. It wasn't and it was cruel.
I observed a server treat our friends who are a biracial couple like they were squallier.
One of my bosses where I worked told me about being a little girl when integration happened and how her father wouldn't let her ride the bus because black children were on it. It went deeper than that as an adult when she was married, she and her husband had a Christmas open house and invited her parents, they had people from their work, when her father saw that there were African Americans there, they turned on their heel and left. I couldn't see my parents, or anyone else I knew doing something like that.

I lived in the Hampton Roads area . . . Virginia Beach, Chesapeake . . . I love the people that I met and have some great memories. However, I wouldn't want to live there again. People are people, regardless of skin color, and I know I couldn't handle all of that again, seeing Rebel flags flying, knowing that some thought them self better than their neighbor.

In Lincoln you see the struggle to set the slaves free. How President Lincoln fights to get them free, and almost dies doing it. It was amazing to me the way the senators fought Lincoln on the 13th Amendment and then as the vote got closer things began to change. It really changed when the day of the vote and a group of African Americans entered the observing seats and the senators changed their tune.

If you haven't seen this movie I highly recommend it!

In Honor of Memorial Day I Give You The United States Navy Ceremonial Drill Team

    New Wings

Why is it that when we pray for the supernatural, we are surprised when it shows up?

Seventeen-year-old Olivia Stanton knows the Bible says guardian angels exist, but assumes they only show up when people are dying or need to be saved from some kind of sudden disaster…until her own guardian angel appears to her in the form of a handsome blonde-haired, blue-eyed guy her own age. As Olivia gets to know Mike, she begins to see angels—both good and evil—on a regular basis, and quickly learns how many misconceptions she had about the spiritual realm.
Will Mike be able to prepare Olivia for the daunting spiritual battle about to overtake her small town before it destroys her and everyone she cares about?

    What I Liked . . . .

This is a great spiritual warfare book, along the lines of Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker.
It really reminded me a lot of Frank Peretti's first book This Present Darkness.

Olivia is a seventeen and one Sunday she prays and asks God to show her if she has a guardian angel and He begins to show her.
Little did she know that by praying this prayer she would not only see her guardian angel, she would also see into the spiritual realm. This strengthens her faith in so many ways.

    What I didn’t . . . .

The author wanted to write a book for her daughter that was a positive paranormal. One that would focus on God. I give her a lot of credit for that. However, if you want to write a book that is different from the paranormal books that feature the vampires . . . ie Twilight, then don't write in things like Twilight. Instead of Olivia being the new person, it was Mike her guardian angel, and he is the "hot" guy with the "cool" car. And he appears in her room, not like Edward did with Bella, yet he comes in. Those things are indicadent of Twilight. So, if you want it to be different make it different.

    About the Author . . . .

Donna Stanley lives in the beautiful Endless Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania with her husband, Jonathan, and their teenage daughter, Olivia. She attended Philadelphia Biblical University, Moody Bible Institute, and Mansfield University, where she studied angelology, demonology, and the anthropology of religion. She was a youth leader for ten years and a pastor’s wife for sixteen years. She now serves as a young-adult mentor and leader in her local church.
Donna has been writing articles for Christian retailing magazines, training manuals for start-up companies, and short stories for twenty years. She’s also an experienced speaker whose favorite subject is marketing and promotion…and, of course, angels!

    Would I Recommend This . . . .

Yes, I would recommend this book. I would say that there are some parts that for a younger teen could be quite scary.  As a parent I would say that you would have to make a judgement on his/her's discernment in this area.

    Undeniably Yours

    This week, the
    Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
    is introducing
    Undeniably Yours
Bethany House Publishers (May 1, 2013)
    by
    Becky Wade

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

During her childhood in California, Becky frequently produced homemade plays starring her sisters, friends, and cousins. These plays almost always featured a heroine, a prince, and a love story with a happy ending. She's been a fan of all things romantic ever since.

Becky and her husband lived overseas in the Caribbean and Australia before settling in Dallas, Texas. It was during her years abroad that Becky's passion for reading turned into a passion for writing. She published three historical romances for the general market, put her career on hold for many years to care for her kids, and eventually returned to writing sheerly for the love of it. Her first contemporary Christian romance, My Stubborn Heart, has been named a finalist for Romance Writers of America's RITA Award. Her newest release, Undeniably Yours, is available now.

These days Becky can be found failing but trying to keep up with her housework, sweating at the gym, carting her kids around town, playing tennis, hunched over her computer, eating chocolate, or collapsed on the sofa watching TV with her husband.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

When Meg Cole's father dies unexpectedly, she becomes the majority shareholder of his oil company and the single inheritor of his fortune. Though Meg is soft-spoken and tenderhearted--more interested in art than in oil--she's forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of her father's empire.

The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father's thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo's determined to resent the woman who's decided to rob him of his dream. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them--her wealth, his unworthiness, her family's outrage--and earn the right to love her.

But just when Meg begins to realize that Bo might be the one thing on the ranch worth keeping, their fragile bond is viciously broken by a force from Meg's past. Can their love--and their belief that God can work through every circumstance--survive?

If you would like to read the first chapter of Undeniably Yours, go HERE.

My Thoughts: When Meg's father dies unexpectedly, he leaves her his oil company to deal with. She is not thrilled about it and the complications that comes with it. The first day she calls Bo Porter the farm manager in, her plan is to fire him. She takes one look at this cowboy and almost becomes a puddle in the office. He asks her for six months to turn the farm around and she agrees. Later that evening she can't believe she agreed to his terms. Meg has horrible panic attacks, yet she finds when she is around Bo, she is very calm and fine. She has also suffered a horrible divorce and while she is feeling very drawn to Bo, and he to her, she wonders is he just interested in my money, does he care for me as me. Great sophomore book by Becky Wade! Grab a copy for your favorite summer spot!

    ABOUT THE BOOK

Set during the Industrial Revolution and the Great Exhibition of 1851, Follow the Heart is a “sitting-room romance” with the feel of a Regency-era novel but the fashions and technological advances of the mid-Victorian age.

Kate and Christopher Dearing’s lives turn upside down when their father loses everything in a railroad land speculation. The siblings are shipped off to their mother’s brother in England with one edict: marry money.

At twenty-seven years old, Kate has the stigma of being passed over by eligible men many times—and that was before she had no dowry. Christopher would like nothing better than to make his own way in the world; and with a law degree and expertise in the burgeoning railroad industry, he was primed to do just that—in America.

Though their uncle tries to ensure Kate and Christopher find matrimonial prospects only among the highest echelon of British society, their attentions stray to a gardener and a governess.

While Christopher has options that would enable him to lay his affections where he chooses, he cannot let the burden of their family’s finances crush his sister. Trying to push her feelings for the handsome—but not wealthy— gardener aside, Kate’s prospects brighten when a wealthy viscount shows interest in her. But is marrying for the financial security of her family the right thing to do, when her heart is telling her she’s making a mistake?

    Mandates . . . money . . . matrimony. Who will follow the heart?

The Offering - by Angela Hunt

    Book Blurb:

One innocent mistake . . . a lifetime of consequences.

After growing up an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can’t afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple. She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child, she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter. . . .

Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy’s world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.

Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened—could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what’s best for the little boy she has never known.

    My Thoughts:

Roller coaster of emotions! What if you couldn't have a baby? What if you decided that you out of the kindness of your heart you would carry a child for someone else so that they would know the joy of parenthood?  Could you do this for someone? I actually thought about this just because I enjoyed being
pregnant, and because I was adopted. However, I am not sure I could.

In Angela Hunt's new book, The Offering she explores this very idea. Mandy is a military wife who is looking for a way to make some extra money and when she runs into another military wife at her husband, Gideon's family store she thinks she has found a way to bring in some extra money. After much discussion her husband gets on board.

The depth of emotion is hard to describe, other than to say a very riveting book!

    My Thoughts:
It's 1893 and the Chicago World's Fair has arrived with all it's pomp and circumstance.  Bringing inventor's from all over the country.  Cullen is a young cotton farmer from North Carolina, who has horrible allergies to cotton, but loves his father and is willing to endure anything for him since the death of his mother. He has God-given talent for mechanics which is how he ends up at the world fair. He has created a sprinkler system that will go off in a fire, saving lives. While at the fair he realizes that with all the loud noise he is unable to hear, so he hires Della, who teaches the impaired children, to help him read lips.
In true Deanne style we see the struggle that Cullen is going to have, between Della and his girl, Wanda, back home. It doesn't seem that six months is long enough for this fair or for Cullen.

    When Love Calls

    About

When romance calls, will she choose to answer?
Hannah Gregory is good at many things, but that list does not include following rules. So when she must apply for a job as a switchboard operator to support her two sisters, she knows it won't be easy. Hello Girls must conduct themselves according to strict-and often bewildering-rules, which include absolutely no consorting with gentlemen while in training.

Hannah doubts it will be difficult to keep that rule-until a handsome young lawyer starts getting under her skin.

With historic details that bring to life the exciting first decade of the twentieth century, Lorna Seilstad weaves a charming tale of companionship that blossoms into sweet romance.

    My Thoughts:

Hannah is full of spunk and I love her! She is determined to take care of her younger sisters Tessa, and Charlotte, after her parents have died. She sees an ad to be a switchboard operator. When she reads the list of rules, she is sure she can keep all the rules, until her best friend Walt, and the lawyer who evacuated her and her sisters from their home, become fixtures around her and she is not to "consort" with gentlemen while in training. She is beside herself trying to get rid of them.

This book is full of spunk and fire. Hannah is just too doggone cute, and her antics when she is around Lincoln is hilarious.

Lorna has done it again, and written a book that will not only entertain, yet also has a great spiritual messsage.
    A definite must read!

    Jennifer: An O’Malley Love Story

    This week, the
    Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
    is introducing
    Jennifer: An O’Malley Love Story
Bethany House Publishers (May 1, 2013)
    by
    Dee Henderson

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Dee Henderson is the bestselling, award-winning author of 15 previous novels, including the acclaimed O'MALLEY series and UNCOMMON HEROES series. These days, most authors are out there energetically promoting their books in print and broadcast and via social media—wherever they can get attention. But Dee Henderson keeps a low profile. She avoids telephone interviews because of hearing problems, declined to provide a current photo, and will say only that she lives in Illinois.

    ABOUT THE BOOK

It's a summer of change for Jennifer O'Malley. The busy physician has a pediatrics practice in Dallas, and meeting Tom Peterson, and falling in love, is adding a rich layer to her life. She's sorting out how to introduce him to her family--she's the youngest of seven--and thinking about marriage.

She's falling in love with Jesus too, and knows God is good. But that faith is about to be tested in a way she didn't expect, and the results will soon transform her entire family.

Undeniably Yours” by Becky Wade | Kindle Fire Giveaway and 5/29 Facebook Party!

    About Undeniably Yours:

When Meg Cole's father dies unexpectedly, she's forced to return home to Texas and to Whispering Creek Ranch to take up the reins of his empire. The last thing she has the patience or the sanity to deal with? Her father's Thoroughbred racehorse farm. She gives its manager, Bo Porter, six months to close the place down.

Bo knows he ought to resent the woman who's determined to take from him the only job he ever wanted. But instead of anger, Meg evokes within him a profound desire to protect. The more time he spends with her, the more he longs to overcome every obstacle that separates them and earn her love.

Just when Meg realizes she can no longer deny the depth of her feelings for Bo, their fragile bond is broken by a force from Meg's past. Can their relationship-and their belief that God can work through every circumstance-survive?

    My Thoughts:

When Meg's father dies unexpectedly, he leaves her his oil company to deal with. She is not thrilled about it and the complications that comes with it. The first day she calls Bo Porter who is the farm manager into her office to fire him. That doesn't happen. >insert wink<  he asks her to give him six months to turn the farm around and she agrees.

Meg has horrible panic attacks, yet she finds when she is around Bo, she is very calm and fine. She has also suffered a horrible divorce and while she is feeling very drawn to Bo, and he to her, she wonders is he just interested in my money, does he care for me as me.
