GIVEAWAY MAY THE BEST DOG WIN - KELLY HASWAY

When did you start reading?
I remember my mom teaching me to read when I was very young. I always loved books, and I really wanted to be able to read them on my own. I'm not sure how old I was, but Green Eggs and Ham was the first book I read independently.

What is your all time favorite book?
I love The Great Gatsby. I own three copies. When it comes to picture books, Corduroy has always been a huge favorite of mine. That bear is just so cute and adventurous.

When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I think I always knew. I've been writing for as long as I can remember. In elementary and middle school, I wrote poems, short stories, and I even wrote a novel. I'm not sure what happened to that novel, but I know it was bad. I wrote it as all one paragraph and said I'd go back later to break it up--I never did.
After teaching middle school for a few years, I wanted to get serious about writing, so I took courses to fine tune my skills and learn more about the publishing industry. Then I wrote a few more novels, one of which got me signed with my wonderful agent, Lauren Hammond.

Where is your favorite place to read?
When I was growing up, I used to curl up under the window in my bedroom. Now, I like to curl up on the couch or in my bed. But I also read on the treadmill. Bouncing words don't bother me.

Why did you choose writing a children's picture book over a full length novel?
I write for children of all ages. I've written a few novels, and actually that's where I started. But after my daughter was born, I spent a huge portion of my day reading picture books. It made sense to try writing them.

What are your favorite places or place to write?
I don't have an office in my house. I actually write on my couch with my lap desk. I like being in the living room because it's in the middle of my house. I can keep an eye on things and still be comfortable.

Is there anything else you'd like to share with my readers . . .

MAY THE BEST DOG WIN releases April 30. I hope you'll check it out. If you've ever had a dog, you can probably relate to the face-off between Dash and Sweeper. Here's a little about the book: "Dash has the perfect life until the Super Sweeper 5000 shows up. Sweeper runs all over the house sucking up the leftover food scraps, and he even gets his own room! But Dash won't give up his place as the favorite dog without a fight."

Thanks for having me, Andi!

My favorite memory is of my chihuahua Lola. When I first met her, she was my sister's dog, and I had never met her, but had to pick her up at my sis's after her dog sitter quit during sis's vacation. Lola was completely cooperative with being picked up by a stranger and taken to another home. Of course, that's where we learned my sister treated her liked a complete baby and hand fed her only people food!

I follow you on GFC as cstironkat and my favorite dog memory was when my dog passed her certified therapy dog test so we could go visit a local children's home. She has brought so much love and joy to those special children.

My favorite dog memory is my old dog...Blaze...he passed away 5 years ago. I adopted him when he was 4 y/o and had him for 5 years. He loved to walk. We went for 2 mile walks 5 times a day. Boy, was I thin in those days. What a sweet boy. He loved babies. Very tender. Kids were okay, teens not so much.

Hi, favorite dog memory was first seeing IGOR. The runt of the litter. Just a wee scrap. We named him IGOR to inspire confidence in him & in us that he would survive those first few days. He is now a gentle giant.
